Spelling City

I received some great feedback from the kids on the Spelling City website.  They LOVED it!  Thank you to Ms. Clingan for helping out with the yearly fee to use the website!  Use this link to have your child practice their weekly words

Where's Ms. Madrid?

Hello everyone.  Just wanted to let everyone know that I won't be at Bonham for the rest of the week.  I'll be at Bamberger Ranch with our sixth graders!  Don't worry, your kids will be in good hands with our student teachers and Ms. Parker, middle school teacher.   I'm excited to have more stories to write about and tell the kids all about it!  Also the Hispanic Heritage Project is due on Friday!  Have a Wonderful week!

Parents stop asking "How was school today?"  and get better responses by asking the following:

#3.  If you could choose who would you like to sit by in class?  (Who would you NOT want to sit by in class?  Why?)

#4.  Where is the coolest place at the school?

#5.  Tell me a weird word that you heard today.  (Or something weird that someone said.)

#6.  If I called your teacher tonight what would she tell me about you?

#7.  How did you help somebody today?

#8.  How did somebody help you today?

#9.  Tell me one thing that you learned today.

#10.  When were you the happiest today?

#11.  When were you bored today?

#12.  If an alien spaceship came to your class and beamed up someone who would you want them to take?

#13.  Who would you like to play with at recess that you’ve never played with before?

#14.  Tell me something good that happened today.

#15.  What word did your teacher say most today?

#16.  What do you think you should do/learn more of at school?

#17.  What do you think you should do/learn less of at school?

#18.  Who in your class do you think you could be nicer to?

#19.  Where do you play the most at recess?

#20.  Who is the funniest person in your class?  Why is he/she so funny?

#21.  What was your favorite part of lunch?

#22.  If you got to be the teacher tomorrow what would you do?

#23.  Is there anyone in your class that needs a time out?

Reading Homework

Students received their reading homework logs today.  Students are to be reading on a daily basis with a reading goal of 100 minutes or more of reading a week.  We will be increasing that goal every 9 weeks or so.  The Reading Log should be turned in every Monday for a grade and it must be signed by a parent.  Please let me know if there are any questions on this.

I am glad to be in fourth grade, not only because my teachers are nice, but because we are having pure reading time!  I am obsessed with reading.  I read a lot every day!  At home I read books of fantasy and history and lots more.  I am excited to get to read a lot in fourth grade.  It is going to be so much fun1

First Week

We had a wonderful first week of school!  We went over rules and procedures and the students did very well!  The kids seem very excited about us starting the Reading and Writing Workshop!  For Social Studies we will continue learning about Texas Symbols and begin learning about Texas Geography!

I am extremely excited about working with the kids this year and inspiring them to discover, question, think and be excited about learning.  Our Core Values are Leadership, Honesty, Integrity, Curiosity, and Respect! We will be talking about these Core Values and we will be looking for students who are exhibiting these throughout the day!

Today I gave the students their first spelling homework names Tic-Tac- Toe.They will be having a  pre-test at the beginning of every week.  Students will only practice those words which were incorrect in their pre-test for homework.  If they receive a 100% on the pre-test they will not have to do their spelling homework.

It is the student's responsibility to make sure that they are reading and writing on a daily basis and that they are working on spelling words and patterns for the week.

We will be contacting you all soon so that we can have a beginning of the year conference to go over any questions or concerns which you may have.  We will be sending home notices with your children as to when we can meet and go over goals.
